Victims' Rights

What are Crime Victims' Rights in Oregon?

In Oregon, victims of crime have specific legal rights under the Oregon Constitution and state statutes. However, victims' rights vary according to which court the offender is being prosecuted in.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING!

What can I do if I am a victim and I believe my rights may have been violated?

Some of a crime victim’s legal rights are enforceable only if they are requested in advance. In addition, the violation of some rights cannot be remedied if the violation is not reported promptly.

If a victim believes that one of their constitutional rights may have been violated, a victim must file a “Claim of Violation of Crime Victims’ Rights” form with the court. It is available here and must be filed as soon as the victim is aware that a right may have been violated.
