OREGON CRIME VICTIMS LAW CENTER
DEVELOPMENT/COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER - .75 FTE
Purpose of position:
The Oregon Crime Victims Law Center (OCVLC) is a non-profit organization that provides victims of crimes with no-cost legal representation to assist them in enforcing their rights, as crime victims, in criminal cases against their offenders.
The OCVLC also addresses other victimization-related needs of crime victims directly (e.g., by helping them to obtain copies of police reports and other records) and indirectly (e.g., by referring them to social-service agencies, sources of help with legal issues other than those handled by the OCVLC, etc.)
The Development and Communications Manager is responsible for creating and managing a comprehensive communications and fundraising plan in alignment with OCVLC’s strategic plan for long term sustainability and growth. The fundraising plan will include major gift and grant cultivation and solicitation, annual funding, and event planning. This position will coordinate all aspects of the organization’s communications, including quarterly e-newsletters, website content, e-blasts and social media to support relationships with community partners and build strong, successful relationships with donors and potential supporters.
Development/Communications Manager duties:
Create and implement short and long term fundraising plans in alignment with the annual budget, including major gifts, campaigns, annual appeal, events, and development of systems to track fundraising priorities and outreach, with special emphasis on strategies to increase number of donors and contributions of current donors.
Play lead role in prospecting and soliciting major gifts.
Develop new grant funding opportunities: research and build relationships with funders, proposal writing, and managing grant reporting.
Research potential funders to support mission of OCVLC and conduct outreach.
Maintain and update OCVLC donor database.
Coordinate fundraising special events.
With input from Executive Director and staff: create and implement a communications plan to increase community awareness and support strategic plan.
Create marketing/outreach materials (e.g., press releases, social media posts, newsletters).
Outreach to community-based collaborators.
Disseminate content through websites, social media, and other digital platforms, ensuring timely and newsworthy content is available.
Maintain and update website content.
Coordinate and promote training events.
Other duties/tasks/responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
Professional experience and skills:
Demonstrated ability to personally cultivate and solicit major gifts from individuals and businesses
Knowledge of local and regional community leaders, philanthropists, and influencers, including grant-making organizations
Proficiency with preparation of grant applications and reports, including research and relationship building with foundations and granting making organizations.
Familiarity with fundraising best practices and current and emerging applications of technology for fundraising implementation
Knowledge of communications, marketing and branding best practices
Strong written and oral communication, editing, art direction, graphic design technology, organizational, and independent problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
Familiarity with victimization-related and/or other social-service agencies in Oregon, particularly in the greater-Portland area, a plus.
Experience with, and knowledge of, the basic structure of the criminal-justice system helpful.
A driver’s license & reliable vehicle – some driving will be required for event work
Educational qualifications:
A four-year college degree.
Professional qualifications:
4+ years progressively responsible and successful experience in fundraising, personal solicitation, grant writing and other forms of generating support for a nonprofit organization.
2 years of experience creating and managing social media campaigns including copy-writing and content creation for various platforms, traditional and digital media advertising
Position’s salary, benefits, location and hours:
This is a .75 FTE position.
Salary depends on experience.
Benefits include paid vacation based on length of service, starting a .75 day/month, plus sick leave accrual at .375/month, nine paid holidays, medical/dental/vision insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, a SIMPLE retirement plan match of up to 3% of salary, and a monthly Tri-Met pass.
This position is based in the OCVLC’s office in Southwest Portland.
