Position Purpose:
The Senior Staff Attorney is responsible for representing and advocating for clients of the Oregon Crime Victims Law Center ("OCVLC") in civil, criminal, administrative, and other matters, as well as guiding Staff Attorneys in performing similar duties, and assisting the Executive Director in carrying out the legal advocacy mission of OCVLC. Legal representation can include motion practice, civil protection order hearings, administrative hearings, and extrajudicial proceedings. OCVLC is a nonprofit legal clinic that provides direct, no-cost legal representation and advocacy services to crime victims statewide.
Educational Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited law school.
Professional Qualifications: Member of the Oregon Bar in good standing and member of the Federal Bar or ability to apply for membership to the Federal Bar.
Professional Experience: . At least three (3) years of civil and/or criminal litigation experience. Experience in the criminal justice system working with victims of crime may substitute for one (1) year of litigation experience.
Job Duties: The Senior Staff Attorney will represent victims of crime in federal, state, and tribal courts and administrative proceedings to enforce their constitutional and statutory rights and/or their civil remedies as crime victims. In addition, the Senior Staff Attorney will provide guidance to and assist in training staff attorneys in the relevant law; supervise law students representing or assisting in the representation of OCVLC clients; and conduct training and outreach to others who assist crime victims in enforcing their rights.

This position requires a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, as significant travel statewide will be necessary.
The Senior Attorney reports to the Executive Director.

Salary and Benefits:
This is budgeted as a 1.0 FTE position, with a starting salary of up to $110,000, depending upon qualifications and relevant experience.
Benefits include 100% medical, dental, vision insurance for employees plus 50% for dependents; disability insurance for employees, and optional participation in a SIMPLE IRA with an employer match of up to 3%. Vacation accrues based on length of employment, starting with 1.41 days of vacation per month. Sick time is 100 hours per year. Legal malpractice insurance and Oregon State Bar fees are paid.
This position is full-time, on-site, in OCVLC’s office, located at 7412 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, Suite 209, Portland, OR 97225.

- Providing guidance to staff attorneys and assisting them with caseloads.
- Assisting with the supervision and training of staff attorneys, legal interns, and pro bono attorneys.
- Conducting intake interviews with prospective clients.
- Developing relationships with prosecutors, judges, victim advocates, domestic and sexual violence nonprofit organizations, and other stakeholders in the criminal and civil justice systems who work for the benefit of crime victims.
- Staffing OCVLC cases with staff attorneys and staff.
- Working closely with OCVLC's Executive Director to ensure the smooth function of the organization.
- Compiling stock motions and other technical assistance documents necessary to assist staff attorneys.
- Providing victim advocacy services, including referrals and resource information, to clients as needed.
- Developing relationships with similar clinics and nonprofits that work with the OCVLC's clients.
- Providing regular progress reports to the Executive Director.
- Assisting with grant applications and compliance with current grant conditions.
- Maintaining required statistics for grants and providing oversight to the staff attorneys to ensure compliance with grant conditions.
- Providing training to others who work with victims throughout the state, including attorneys, victim advocates, volunteers with local advocacy organizations, and others as necessary.
